In 2023, 475,000 new passenger cars were registered in Poland - 13.2% more than in 2022.
Better sales results were also recorded in vans, trucks, buses and motorbikes. Last year, sales of alternative-fuel passenger cars totalled 217,600 units, up 35.4% on the previous year. This is not only a result of changing consumer preferences, but also an opportunity for manufacturers and suppliers to adjust their offers even more to the growing interest of ecological solutions. According to a report by PZPM and KPMG in Poland "Automotive industry, Q1/2024 edition", the previous year was also a better one for automotive factories in Poland, which produced 612.9 thousand vehicles - 26.7% more than in 2022.

During the first nine months of 2023 , 350,000 new passenger cars were registered in Poland - 10.6% more than in the same period last year. Better sales results were also recorded in the segments of trucks, vans, buses and motorbikes. Particularly noticeable is the dynamic increase in sales of passenger cars with alternative drives, of which 154,000 were sold in Poland between January and September this year, an increase of nearly 30% year-on-year.
Automotive factories in Poland also recorded better results in terms of the number of vehicles produced. The number of vehicles produced in Poland in the three quarters of this year totalled 451,000 - 34.6% more than in the previous year.

Sales of new passenger cars in Poland increased in the first half of 2023

In the first half of 2023, 238.7 thousand new passenger cars were registered in Poland - more than 12% more than in the same period last year. From January to June 2023, Polish people bought 102,000 new vehicles with alternative propulsion systems, 24% more than a year earlier.
Better results were seen also in automotive factories in Poland, where nearly 306,000 vehicles were produced in the first half of this year, an increase of 42.7% y/y.

In the first quarter of 2023 , 123,000 new passenger cars were registered in the Polish automotive market - 21% more than in the same period last year. A positive trend was also recorded in the segments of trucks (+19.2%), trailers and semi-trailers (+2.2%) and motorcycles (+17%). In the first three months of 2023, 54,000 alternative-drive vehicles were registered in Poland, 39% more than a year earlier. Automotive factories in Poland began 2023 with a very good result - 65% more motor vehicles were produced than in the same period last year.

Last year, sales of alternative-fuel passenger cars totalled 170,200 units, 6% higher y/y. 2022 was also a better year for automotive factories in Poland, which produced 483.8 thousand vehicles - 10.1% more than in 2021.

From January to September 2022 , 317,000 new passenger cars were registered in Poland - 9% less than in the same period last year. Worse sales results were also recorded in the segments of vans, trailers and semi-trailers, buses and mopeds. The sales of passenger cars with alternative propulsion systems are still increasing, however much slower than in the previous quarters. 128,000 cars were sold in Poland in the nine months of this year, which means an increase of 7.2% y/y. In terms of the number of vehicles produced, slightly better results were recorded by automotive factories in Poland. During the nine months of 2022, a total of 335.4 thousand vehicles were produced in Poland - 3.5% more than in the previous year.

In the first half of 2022 , 212,400 new passenger cars were registered in Poland - 12.3% less than in the same period last year. Lower sales results were also recorded by the segments of LCVs (-18.3%), heavy commercial vehicles (-2.5%), trailers and semi-trailers (-8%) and buses (-8.9%). However, sales of passenger cars with alternative propulsion systems increased, with nearly 87,000 vehicles of this type registered in the six months of 2022, 10.3% more than in the same period of 2021. The production of motor vehicles in Poland during the first six months of 2022 amounted to 214.3 thousand units - which is 14.6% lower y/y.

In the first quarter of 2022, 102,000 new passenger cars were registered - 13.4% less than in the same period last year. The segments of vans (-12.3%), trucks (-3.4%) and trailers and semi-trailers (-2.8%) also recorded a drop in sales. However, sales of passenger cars with alternative drives increased - in the first quarter of 2022, 42,000 vehicles of this type were registered in Poland, 13.5% more than a year earlier. Very alarming indicators were recorded in the area of vehicle production. In the first three months of 2022, only 90,000 vehicles were produced in Poland - which is a decrease of 33.4% year-on-year. This is the lowest result of the first three months of the year in recent years.

The Automotive Barometer - Report prepared by PZPM and KPMG, edition 1/ 2022

Representatives of automotive companies in Poland are pessimistic in their assessment of both the current and future situation of the industry. The index of the mood of managers in the automotive industry amounts to 46 points and is lower by as many as 23 points in comparison with the results of the survey conducted in mid-2021. The latest edition of the KPMG and PZPM survey, entitled " Automotive companies' managers' mood barometer", shows that the majority of the industry's representatives do not expect the development of electromobility to slow down - forecasting that by 2030 more than every third passenger car will be charged from a socket. The global crisis on the semiconductor market caused a drop in sales in 8 out of 10 automotive companies operating on the Polish market.

In the first quarter of this year, for the first time since the beginning of 2020, it succeeded to stop the decline in vehicle registrations in Poland. During this period, 117.9 thousand new passenger cars were registered on the Vistula - 9.5% more than in the same time of 2020. Sales growth was also recorded in the segments of light commercial vehicles (+35.1%), heavy commercial vehicles (+58.6%), trailers and semi-trailers (+73.1%) and Motorbikes, with 12.8% increase in registrations year-on-year. Again, a very high pace of growth was recorded in the segment of passenger cars with alternative drives - in the first quarter of this year 35.6 thousand vehicles of this type were registered in Poland, 129.5% more than a year earlier. However, bad data is coming from the vehicle production. During the first three months of 2021, 126.5 thousand vehicles were produced in Poland - which means - 15.1% decrease year-on-year.

The Automotive Executive Barometer - prepared by PZPM and KPMG, edition 2/ 2021

After many difficult months, representatives of automotive companies present on the Polish market see good prospects ahead of them. According to the latest edition of the survey - conducted by PZPM and KPMG, the Automotive Executive's sentiment index scored 69 points and is higher by 19 points than in the previous edition of the survey prepared at the beginning of this year. The situation of automotive companies in Poland is starting to improve - 85% of the industry representatives forecast a return to the pre-pandemic situation within 1-2 years. Companies are more optimistic about the future and better assess the economic situation in the country in the next 12 months.

More than 40% of automotive executives expect a comeback to the pre-pandemic situation within 2 years

The survey of moods among representatives of automotive companies present on the Polish market improved despite the extremely difficult situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the latest edition of the KPMG and PZPM survey, the index of moods among managers amounts to 50 points and is 30 points higher than the results of the previous edition of the survey, conducted in the middle of last year. The situation of automotive companies in Poland is still very difficult - 83% of them recorded a decrease in revenue. Despite the fact that last year was extremely difficult for the industry, 44% of industry representatives forecast a return to the pre-pandemic situation within 2 years. In the future both the manufacturers and distributors plan to increase investments in virtual showrooms and virtual sales at the same time reducing employment.

In 2020, 428 300 new passenger cars were registered in Poland -  by 23% less compared to 2019. Registration declines concern, except for motorcycles, LCVs, trucks, trailers and semi-trailers, buses and mopeds. The passenger car segment with alternative propulsion continued growth. In 2020, the number of car registrations of this type in Poland amounted to 79 200 units and was 50.2% higher than in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, vehicle production decreased. In total 2020, 451 400 vehicles were produced by 30.5% less than in the previous year. The deepest decline by 35.8%, was recorded in the production of passenger cars.

During the three quarters of 2020, 295.1 thousand new passenger cars were registered in Poland - 28.2% less than in the same period of 2019. The drops in registration, except for motorcycles, also apply to other types of vehicles: vans, trucks, trailers and semi-trailers and buses. The growth rate is maintained by the segment of passenger cars with alternative drives. During the three quarters of 2020, nearly 47.9 thousand such vehicles were sold in Poland, which means an increase of 25.8% y/y. The COVID-19 pandemic adversely affects the production results of automotive factories. During the 9 months of 2020, a total of 325.5 thousand vehicles were produced in Poland - 34.8% less than in the previous year. The deepest drop of 40.4% was recorded in passenger car production.

Quaterly Report PZPM/KPMG - 3Q 2020

In the first half of the year, 179.8 thousand new passenger cars, 24.6 thousand vans, 8.1 thousand trucks, over 6.9 thousand trailers and semi-trailers and nearly 700 buses were registered in Poland. By the end of June this year. Poles also bought 10.4 thousand motorcycles and 7.4 thousand mopeds. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the number of new vehicle registrations to be significantly lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. The only passenger car segment which, with over 26.8 thousand new cars sold, recorded a 12.7% increase in the first half of 2020 is the segment of vehicles with alternative drives. Among the cars of this type, the largest, more than three-fold y/y increase was recorded by plug-in hybrids. In the first half of 2020, automotive factories in Poland produced over 201 thousand vehicles - 44.1% less than in the first half of 2019.

The results of the latest survey by KPMG and PZPM "The Automotive Executives Barometer Survey" leave no doubt about the scale of the negative impact of COVID-19 on the automotive market in Poland.

An extremely difficult situation in the automotive industry causes pessimism among representatives of automotive companies on the Polish market.  In the latest edition of the KPMG and PZPM survey, the mood index stopped at just 20 points and is 46 points lower than in the survey conducted in late December 2019. COVID-19 has had a negative impact on automotive companies in Poland - all surveyed companies recorded a decline in revenue, and 61% were forced to cut wages. In the long term, companies plan to reduce employment and freeze investments in business development. According to 80% of managers, it will take up to 2 years to reach the situation in the automotive industry before the outbreak of the pandemic.

In the first quarter of 2020, 107.6 thousand new passenger cars, 13.4 thousand vans, 4.7 thousand trucks, 4 thousand trailers and semi-trailers, nearly 400 buses and 3.1 thousand motorcycles and 2.3 thousand mopeds were registered in Poland. The number of registrations of electric cars is growing dynamically. Poles have registered more than twice as many of them as in the same period last year. In the whole of 2019, the export of automotive products from Poland increased by 4% y/y, while the value of passenger car exports was decreased by 1.2%. In the first quarter of 2020 the automotive factories located in Poland achieved a worse result. At that time 148.9 thousand motor vehicles left the assembly lines, which means a decrease by 13.2% in relation to the same period last year.

In 2019 year, 555.6 thousand of new passenger cars were registered in Poland, 69.9 thous. of delivery vans, 28.3 thous. of trucks and 38.3 thousand of Power Two Wheelers. Cars with gasoline and alternative propultions are becoming more and more popular, while Poles are less and less often choosing cars with diesel engines. Number of the first registrations of new passenger car increased by 4.5%, and the number of passenger cars produced dropped by 3.7% and amounted to 434.7 thousand units. The value of sold production of the automotive industry companies amounted to PLN 160.7 billion - by 4.5% more than in 2018.

In the first three quarters of 2019, 410,800 of new passenger cars were registered in Poland. It was more by 1.9% compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of vehicle registrations with alternative propulsions is growing very dynamically, with 28 558 units registered since the beginning of the year (+ 60.3% y / y). In the first half of current year the value of exports of automotive products (including motor vehicles) from Poland increased by 3.5% y / y, while the value of exports of passenger cars decreased by 6.2%. In total, nearly 500,000 motor vehicles have left Polish plants since the beginning of the year, which means an increase of 0.5% y / y

In the first half of 2019, 278.3 thousand of new passenger cars were registered, 35.1 thousand LCVs, 16.8 thousand  commercial vehicles, 14.1 thousand of trailers and semi-trailers and 11,500 motorcycles and 10,500 mopeds. In the first half of this year the number of electric car registrations increased dynamically, with Poles registered almost 98% more than in the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2019, the value of exports of automotive products from Poland increased by 3.3% y / y, during that time the value of passenger car exports decreased by as much as 12%. Similarly, in the first half of 2019, automotive plants located in Poland generated a higher result of value by 6.5%, but assembly lines rolled 360,000 motor vehicles, which means a decrease by 0.6% versus the same period last year

The mood indicator of managers assessing the current situation is 83/100, which means a drop by 3 points  compared to the previous edition of the study. Among the representatives of companies, the pessimistic moods are also predominant, both regarding the future of the industry and the future economic situation in Poland. The deterioration in the situation of the automotive industry over the next 12 months is more often expected by representatives of manufacturing companies.

In the first three quarters of 2018, 403.3 thousand of new passenger cars were registered in Poland - by 13.5% more compared to the same period of 2017 year. In the same period the institutional customer segment grew by 17.8%. Dynamical increase by 16.6% was noted in the premium+ segment. Cars with alternative propulsion accounted 17 163 units (+ 33.4% y / y).

In total, from the beginning of 2018 year, 496.6 thousand of motor vehicles left Polish plants (-5.9% y / y).
