Published: 04-08-2020
In the first half of the year, 179.8 thousand new passenger cars, 24.6 thousand vans, 8.1 thousand trucks, over 6.9 thousand trailers and semi-trailers and nearly 700 buses were registered in Poland. By the end of June this year. Poles also bought 10.4 thousand motorcycles and 7.4 thousand mopeds. The COVID-19 pandemic caused the number of new vehicle registrations to be significantly lower than in the corresponding period of 2019. The only passenger car segment which, with over 26.8 thousand new cars sold, recorded a 12.7% increase in the first half of 2020 is the segment of vehicles with alternative drives. Among the cars of this type, the largest, more than three-fold y/y increase was recorded by plug-in hybrids. In the first half of 2020, automotive factories in Poland produced over 201 thousand vehicles - 44.1% less than in the first half of 2019
In H1 2020 less than 4.3 million new passenger cars were registered in the European Union –i.e. 38.1% less than in the corresponding period a year ago. The sharp decline in registrationswas caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The highest number of passenger cars was registered in Germany, France and Italy.
