New commercial vehicle registrations: vans +8.5%, trucks -7.5%, buses +16% in the first three quarters of 2024
In the first nine months of 2024, new EU van sales increased by 8.5%, reaching 1,170,310 units, driven by positive results in all four key markets. Spain led with a remarkable 16.7%
rise, followed by Germany at 8.2%, Italy at 7.3%, and France at 5.8%. By contrast, new EU truck registrations saw a 7.5% decline, totalling 249,708 units from January to September. This drop was driven by a 9.5% downturn in heavy-truck sales, while medium trucks increased by a feeble 3%. Though Spain and Italy remained in positive territory with gains of 12% and 2.1%, respectively, this did not offset declines in Germany (-7%) and France (-4.3%).
Bus sales rose by 16% compared to the first three quarters of 2023, totalling 27,400 units.
All major markets recorded growth, particularly Spain (+21.8%) and Italy (+21%).
We present the results on PRODUCTION OF MOTOR VEHICLES and ENGINES FOR MECHANICAL VEHICLES in POLAND in SEPTEMBER 2024, based on data from the Central Statistical Office (CSO)
In September 2024 , production of all types of vehicles and engines was significantly higher than a month earlier. Compared to last September, the results produced also surpassed last year's results. The exception is the passenger car segment, which recorded a very low result for the third consecutive month.
PASSENGER CARS
y/y change: September -63.4%; January-September: -21.3%
In September after a very weak July and August, production increased slightly last month, but the result of 10, 2 thousand units generated is 63.4% lower than September 2023.
After nine months this year, the decrease amounts to -21.3% y/y.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES (incl.LCV), TRAILER & SEMI-TRAILERS
y/y change: September +28.6% January-September: +15.4%
In September this year
, trucks recovered after the holiday season with a strong result of 30,542 units. , which is higher than both last month (+35.7%) and the same month last year (+28.6% y/y). Truck production has remained on the upswing since the beginning of the year, with an increase of 15.4% y/y at the end of September.
BUSES & COACHES ( (for transporting 10 people and more)
y/y change: September +46.6% ; January-September: -6,7%
In September 2024,
bus production completed with a strong result of 532 units, 46.6% higher than a year earlier and 54.2% higher than in August this year.
A total of 3,460 vehicles for public transport were produced in the first nine months of this year. The solid September result did not offset losses from the holiday period, and at the end of September, bus production remains on a slight loss (-6.7% y/y).
COMBUSTION ENEGINES FOR VEHICLES
y/y change: September +28.9% ; January-September: -2,1%
In September this year,
production of engines for motor vehicles, with a result of 189,000 units, was higher than in the last two summer months and also higher than in September 2023.
Nevertheless, after nine months of this year, it is 2.9% lower than in the same period of 2023.
The number of diesel engines at the end of the third quarter amounted to 1,639 units, 8.5% more than last year, while the production of gasoline engines in the period in question recorded a decline of 67.5% y/y.
