Environment

The motor industry undertakes numerous measures to safeguard the environment and protect the quality of air.

To-date, we have initiated wide-spanned activities to identify new emission standards for passenger cars and light-duty vehicles (Euro 5 and Euro 6). Further efforts on emission reduction are also focusing on heavy vehicles (buses and trucks) under the Euro VI project.
As climate change is a major concern, the motor vehicle sector is also undertaking special measures to curb carbon emission, what has led to introduction of monitoring of carbon emissions from passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.

As a result of our initiatives, average emissions from new vehicles registered in the EU in 2015 will account for approximately 130 g/km for passenger cars, in line with Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council (EC) No 443/2009 of 23 April 2009 setting emission performance for new passenger cars as part of the Community’s integrated approach to reduce CO2 emissions from light-duty vehicles. Average emission performance for light-duty vehicles will stand by 175 g/km by 2017, as provided by Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council No 510/2011 of 11 May 2011 setting emission performance for new passenger cars as part of the Community’s integrated approach to reduce CO2 emissions from light-duty vehicles.
